Well I knew the weather wouldn’t hold that long, but in the last week, I managed to strip down the entire car to a near bare shell, the only areas I haven’t stripped are the two doors (as I am not sure I would ever find new rubbers again) and the Webasto roof. The only real jobs left for me to finish are to remove the prop shaft (just literally done) and to finish off under the bonnet.
Under the bonnet is stripped of paint but I still need to find a few hours to square off the under-seal in the transmission tunnel and to sand down the flat areas on the front bulkhead so when its painted it looks nice and smooth, alas looking at the weather for tomorrow I fear I might not get that done and have to ask the paint shop to do it for me.
Monday after work is my last chance as the car is being collected around 6:30pm to get things done if tomorrow is too wet. If this weekend had of been good then I would of removed all the old mastic around the windscreen frames on the body and wiped down as much of the Waxoil as I could off the outer body, alas these things will not get done.
I have had a letter through form a good friend who has found a nice trimmer to make me a headlining and also samples of black headlining material in just the right material. I will check on Monday as to cost and delivery of the material and try to get it sent off to the trimmers with the old headlining so a new one can be made ready for when the car returns.
I have also managed to obtain a new set of hoses, so that’s a good job, alas the shopping list is still long but if I spend some time looking and talking to people I might come up trumps with some of the harder to find parts.
I have some leads on wishbone parts now, I have two sources one in Cornwall and one local to me, I am off to look at the local one on Tuesday if its too much dollar then Cornwall comes into play.
When I took the prop shaft off the car I did notice the floor is still clean and tidy, but some of the plates (seatbelt, shock mounts, et al) are starting to show signs of age and surface rust. I think I should spend some time cleaning them down when the car comes back before I drop the heavy components back on the car. So just like the shopping list the work list grows.
