Yea I know its late, Its just that I have been ever so busy doing lots of odd jobs. First on this weeks report if the 1256cc engine, I finished stripping the engine down, for an inspection, alas all is not well. The bores are already bored to 0.060″ oversized, which is the largest one can bore one of these blocks too. The bores are scored and there are a few chunks missing. I suspect the engine would be fine to use as an everyday engine if it wasn’t pushed to hard, this engine however is designed to go fast and it wouldn’t be too cleaver to build it all up to see if fail, because I didn’t check the block.
As you can see bore number 2 not only is scored but has a chunk missing, so its time to find a replacement.
With any luck I should get a replacement soon, a nice chap from the Chevette Owners has a spare block and its just a matter of timing. Cheers Ross, you will go to heaven.
Next on the list was to tidy the shed out (yet again) and this took most of the weekend, clearing up oil spills, sorting out oils and paints, cleaning parts, sorting nuts and bolts (you get the idea) By Sunday Morning the shed was all sorted out and the rubbish was dumped either via the local dump and or on the back of the local Pikies Transit.
I have one last 1159cc crank that needed sorting out and I had collected this on Friday afternoon, and I had the block all ready to fit it, alas the headstock machine up at the workshop was broken so the grinding got subbed out to another company. The failed to re grind the thrust faces, so as I tried to fit the crank to the block it wouldn’t fit!
So that’s another crank that needed reworking due to someone doing half a job, I got that rectified on Monday after work, and the crank is now fitted. I still need to re fit the pistons, get the sump on and rebuild the top end. that engine is the last of the pile of original engines I got last year to rebuild.
Last main item form this weekend was Marvin, the car is now fully prepared for undercoat, just needs masking up ready, so fingers crossed some new pictures will appear in the week that show progress.
