Viva Gt fuel lines (cont)
I have a full time job so working on the car does stop and start all the time. Today I have been off work (for the plumber to service the old boiler) he came and went very quickly. So I have had an opportunity to finish off loads of little fiddly jobs on the car and in the garage.
The main job today was to look at the chassis clamps under the car for the fuel / brake lines. The existing layout (when I had carburettors) was a single plastic tube for fuel and a AN4 braided hose for brakes, held up with double P clips (back to back). Now that I have AN6 fuel lines (2 of them) and the AN4 brake line, the existing double P clip arrangement is no longer suitable. I spent ages thinking about getting some triple clamps made for everything under the car, but its just too much work and effort for whats not seen. The solution was the following.
These are 11mm alloy clamps in black, cheap on eBay, with the bolt hole drilled out from 4mm to 6mm. I can then use this to hold the twin fuel lines, and one of the existing P clips for the brake line. With one single 5mm screw through the lot (note I will need to cut the screws shorter) into the existing Rivnut in the chassis rails.
I need to mount the fuel filter and pump assembly back under the car (tomorrow with some help I hope). Then I can lay the forward aft lines, cut to length, mount using the correct fittings, then look at the filter to fuel tank line and its route. I plan to have the fuel system finished by the end of the weekend.
Whats after that? The oil cooler / hoses and a oil catch tank, then move all the brake remote filler pots to make room for the fuse box / alarm / ECU… endless jobs as always.
