Viva GT: Fail :(
Thats right its a fail, but not the end of the world. the GT will not be driving to NON Billing nor correctly running, this week was the crunch week and its got too many issue on the “to correct” list to get done in time,(and its not over till late today so maybe even more items to rectify).
First up is a weird issue with both bottom ball joints being naff. They were brand new ball joints fitted to cleaned and painted lower arms with all new nuts bolts and bushes, alas the ball joints rock in the lower arms, so I am told. I am going to have to strip off the lower arms to investigate the cause so I have two new ball joints in the post. Secondly this means the wheels are still pointing at ten to two, as the tracking geometry cannot be setup till the play in the ball joints issue is resolved.
Then just a few minutes ago I had a call from the workshop to say they couldn’t map the ECU either, as they need direct access to map things using a special mapping lead, something to do with the DTA ECU having a ultra slow interface using a 9 pin serial lead, and they have a special connector that enables on the fly mapping to be done. So just unplug that serial lead and use their interface? Wrong; the Serial connector is at the back of the centre consul, so the consul would need to be removed in order to gain access to the ECU.
To remove the centre consul I have to remove the drivers seat, so I can get to the handbrake bolts. Once that is out of the way I can unscrew the consul and lift it out of the way (the handbrake sort of locks it in place). Then and only then can I get access to the ECU. So I need to take it out, replace the consul and handbrake and seat, and find a new home for the ECU.
I thought I was being all neat and tidy hiding it away, but I have now caused the total failure of the mapping session before it even started.
Hopefully as long as the rest of today goes okay, and the engine starts gets up to temperature with no leaks, they can set a base map to enable me to drive it on and off a trailer using the serial lead.
So the plan is now to get it collected Saturday, that gives me only a day and three evenings to rectify everything, let alone finish off the other outstanding jobs!
I knew I was crossing my fingers too much, the only option now for the show is to trailer it there and back as a static build, and thats now what I wanted to do and another load of hassle to sort out.
