Viva GT cam belt
I have been working away again on the timing belt for the Lotus engine and last weekend I had drilled and tapped the hole as instructed and was just awaiting the bolts to arrive. Earlier in the week the bolt did arrive and to my horror the hole in the adjuster is way too big for the bolt, it slops around!
Some telephone calls and internet searches reviled some duff information was provided, no bother, so today I re drilled the 8mm tapped hole to 8.5mm and then with assistance re taped it to 10mm, to take a stud this time.
On Friday I popped over to the local Lotus specialist and picked up the stud plus a replacement bottom crank cover / oil seal, as mine has this home made timing position marker and the crank sensor is blocked by it, so a stock one was required.
Here is the new casting in place with the clear TDC markings, there is now space under to see the 36 pin out wheel but the crank sensor using the supplied alloy mount.
I still need to get some tidying up done on the bottom pulley, as the screw heads form the 36 pin out wheel just show, and this might ruin the water pump belt. It also needs a fresh coat of paint and to mark up the TDC mark better.
Next jobs are to align and locktite the stud in its correct position, then start to refit everything cam-belt wise. Once thats done its alternator and water pump belts (pending the bottom pulley). Adjust the cambelt and its one job finished.
