Vented front brake disks
I collected the modified front hubs from the engineering shop today (MACE Engineering of Nuneaton), basically I have stuck with 240mm front disks (so I can get 13″ wheels on the car) but changed the disks to Ford XR3 vented disks. I will also be suing a more modern design of brake calliper but those can wait for now.
The design was worked out a few years ago by a friend of mine, and having driven up and down the road at legal speeds we were able to stop on a sixpence with no issues at all in his V8 powered Viva HC.
The simple design is to re drill the Ford discs to 4″ PCD and install longer studs.
The first image shows the complete assemble along with the scaler ring that centralises the disk on the hub.
The second image shows the hub the other way around so one can see the new bearing races installed.
The last image shows the stepped spacer made to centralise the disk on the hub, its been sweated onto the hub, and now forms part of the hub as a whole, you can also see the new longer studs installed to counter the depth of the disk.
All I now need to is clean up the hubs a bit, apply some fresh paint, grease up the bearings, add the seals, and them fit them all to the subframe,. With any luck that should be this weekend, if there is a space available on a workbench at RP?.
