Trial engine fit success
Well tonight we went for it again, and good news the engine fits…. We have now worked out the height and position of the engine. its tight there isn’t a lot of space but it will go in and that’s all that matters at this point. The engine is canted backward in the image but it will sit more level, we needed to sort the gear-stick hole before raising up the gearbox.
We are still using the alloy mounts off the original engine, but only to place the engine into the correct position, the reality is now we have the position its time to cut the subframe and make real mounts that are strong and allow for free access to the exhaust. Not the amount of space we have for the exhaust inst actually that bad.
Here is the gear-stick position, as those that know this is the in the same position as the OHV engines, which I can live with.
Here is the gearbox lifted to its correct height.
It looks like we will need to move the steering rack 1/2″ to the Drivers side to allow space for a U/J.
From the front of the Block we have just under 8 inches which is just the right amount, I need 4 inches for various things that bolt on the front of the block, and a couple of inches for a radiator and that leaves a bit of wriggle room.
All that’s left to do is construct a sump (a job for RetroPower me thinks, it could even be front bowl? who knows?) But first we need to finish off the new mounts.
A good evening work, a beer is in the fridge with my name written on it.
