The replacement piston rings appeared today, so the rest of the pistons were assembled and fitted to the block, the Big ends are now all tightened down, so apart from fitting the oil pump the sump is ready to fit.
However the sump and timing case cover are rusty, so next door is taking them off to be blasted and painted for me. I think in a week or so I should get them back. In the meantime I can attend to the timing of the engine and also build the head ready to fit.
The timing was rather fiddly, I had to set the TDC via the depth gauge (see image above) as the mark for timing on the crank pulley is covered over with the collar (I cannot remove this as its siezed on, but see no need to remove this at this time). Also the camshaft pulley was marked with dots (hand done) and these didn’t align to the TR6 book I have. Some turning the block over several times and working backwards throughout the dissemble images and I now have TDC on number one cylinder the lobes on the cam set up correctly and the marks on the pulley aligned correctly, it took some time but it is sorted.
