Tired long week
Its been a very long week so far, and I have struggled to get parts for things and find time after work to get other things done. But I am happy to report the Datsun is still running, and things are looking good for it. Time has been taken up because the garage where I store most of my spares has had to be moved and emptied due to the council wanting to replace the doors. Thats has taken some time to do.
The GT still sits unworked on, but its best it is left at the minute as Retropower are getting ready for the biggest show they have done, and its all hands on deck getting no less that 10 finished cars ready to display, which means I need to be out of their hair, as mine is not in a state to finish off, eta is still spring 2015.
In the mean time I have been playing with the MOVE, its at a stage now where the engine is ready to be lifted out of the car, only three loosened engine mount bolts remain to withdraw plus the driveshafts to undo and it should lift out of the car. The intention is to split the gearbox and engine apart in the garage and see if the only problem is the rear crank oil seal (I have spare ones now). If thats the only leaking issue, then I will spend an hour of so looking at depth inside the engine and judge its wear. If its not too bad I will replace the oil seal and put the engine straight back in the car. If its too worn and realistically buggered I have the spare engine here back in the send of plenty thats almost finished.
Why not put the new engine in? well its been put back together with all new gaskets and oil seals, but its unproven and I want something I can use straight away. The old engine ran okay it just leaked and its tick over was too high. I think the tick over is down to poor servicing, I have some books and some spare sensors now. It might just be a good service and tune and the car will be fine for the next few months. If the engine dies I have a spare.
Speaking of spares here is how the spare engine stands at the minute, top and bottom pulleys need to be tightened, tappets reset, timing checked again, otherwise its ready to fit the flywheel and convertor off the old engine in the car if required.
