Test a welder
Well I had some time this evening to have a look at the welder and I can report Dave its 100% fine, alas that cannot be said for my welding skills… I got two old bits of metal and thought nothing like diving in at the deep end.
First of all I needed to play with the wire, the tensioner and the spool of wire itself, it wasn’t feeding at all, I think the wire in the cable and the wire that was exposed to the outside world was a bit corroded, so I dragged about 12 foot or so through and adjusted the tensioner till it gripped the wire and it all fed nice and smoothly.
Secondly I made sure all the wires in the hand grip were as they should be, I have seen Bulldog do this before so had a basic idea that it was important to check the switch grip, again all sorted.
So back to the two bits of metal, I opened the gas fully and set everything on lowest settings, and I got a few “fut futt’s” and no wire? so i checked the wire was feeding correctly which it was. I tried again and horrar some of that bright light and wire all glowing hot sticking to the two bits of metal (with the end result being two tint bits of copper wire laying on the surface of the metal doing diddle squat in terms of strength (early days)
I tried again and this time I got a lot of sparks and no wire….I switched everything off and took the nose off the welder torch and discovered I have welded the very thin copper tube up!! OOPS
And so the fun begins!!!! LOL
