TR6 Body

Its been a little while since my last post here, I have been busy with two projects, one a TR6 rebuild helping next door and my little BSA Ariel 3 trike. More on the trike another time, but here is tonights update on the TR6. Not bad for 12 weeks...

TR6 (yet more)

Boring innit? But I do feel duty bound to document this engine build as the owner likes to know whats going on when he hears me shout from the shed. Tonight I re-checked the timing (happy as is) and refitted the timing case cover. The chain tensioner was a bugger...

TR6 Rings

The replacement piston rings appeared today, so the rest of the pistons were assembled and fitted to the block, the Big ends are now all tightened down, so apart from fitting the oil pump the sump is ready to fit. However the sump and timing case cover are rusty, so...

Parts mistake

So, after raving the other day about how nice it was to have boxes and bags of brand new parts for the TR6, I now find the piston rings are all wrong. It was a sealed box of Plus 0.030″ rings as specified but whats actually in the box was...

TR6 engine build (cont).

Today I managed to torque the crank down, add the rear crank oil seal and block filler plates. Not a great deal, but its none more bit done (and its Sunday!). Cleaning up the bolts and painting odd brackets seems to take more time that anything else.

TR6 Crank

Well I have now seated the crank in place and dropped the Main bearing caps in. I re-tested the end float again, this time with the new Copper thrust bearings. Spot on still, so nearly time to tighten those up. Crank turns loverly no drag or tight spots anywhere. I...

TR6 Engine build

I have started the engine build on the TR6, I have not progressed very far, as it is, in that measure everything stage. Never having worked on an engine where everything is available off the shelf, I am somewhat in luxury. With Viva’s its a matter of checking the old...

TR6 engine update

The engine block is now back from the cleaners and some inspection has shown it to be fine to use. The job now is to obtain all the parts required ASAP and start the re assembly. I still need to get the crank checked, but going by what I have...

TR6 chassis and shell

Wow, it only took a couple of hours, but the body is off the shell of the TR6, so that the underside of the body can be finished off and the rolling parts can be reconditioned. The car is amazing, new tin everywhere, a few odd bits need attention. First...

TR6 Engine recon

For my sins I have agreed to rebuild next door’s TR6 engine, its been sat around since the mid 1980’s and filled with oil to stop it seizing. That oil was like sludge, stank and made a right mess. The good news its having stripped it down, the bores look...
