Datsun so called 1800 screamer

Alas not all is good in the land of the rising sun, the poor old Datsun has lost yet another engine. We are now down to the wire with the real engine for the car (The engine builder is still hard at it). So there I am pulled in, to...

Datsun(day) methanol engine

Long day today sat / stood in the back of workshop putting back together the old methanol L20B engine. It leaked a lot when it was in the car, but turned out the head wasn’t flat nor the decked block. The block is now even more decked, and the pistson...

TR6 (yet more)

Boring innit? But I do feel duty bound to document this engine build as the owner likes to know whats going on when he hears me shout from the shed. Tonight I re-checked the timing (happy as is) and refitted the timing case cover. The chain tensioner was a bugger...

TR6 Rings

The replacement piston rings appeared today, so the rest of the pistons were assembled and fitted to the block, the Big ends are now all tightened down, so apart from fitting the oil pump the sump is ready to fit. However the sump and timing case cover are rusty, so...

Parts mistake

So, after raving the other day about how nice it was to have boxes and bags of brand new parts for the TR6, I now find the piston rings are all wrong. It was a sealed box of Plus 0.030″ rings as specified but whats actually in the box was...

TR6 Crank

Well I have now seated the crank in place and dropped the Main bearing caps in. I re-tested the end float again, this time with the new Copper thrust bearings. Spot on still, so nearly time to tighten those up. Crank turns loverly no drag or tight spots anywhere. I...

Move 850cc Triple engine rebuild

Tired long week

Its been a very long week so far, and I have struggled to get parts for things and find time after work to get other things done. But I am happy to report the Datsun is still running, and things are looking good for it. Time has been taken up...

BLYDENSTEIN DEVELOPMENTS 617X rebuild

Well I have finally done something with Mark’s 1256cc engine. Its not a lot in the grand scale of things, but so far its been bored to take the plus 40 pistons, new camshaft bearings, the block decked by 10 thou, new core plugs, and all the bolts zinc’d ready...
