Went and continued the stripping down of the Gt today. I have 7 days left to get it right back to a shell so its all go go go. Got other things to do this afternoon alas, but I should get a lot done during the week and all of next weekend.
Took a while but the rear lights and chrome trims are off and the chrome strip along the boot lid, the drivers side light area is a rusty, but its just surface so no big deal. The rear boot lid is rotten however on the inside on the drivers side just behind the chrome trim on the inside.
I removed the fuel tank, which appears to be solid and not leaking, but after taking the sender unit out, and draining the gallon of old fuel I noticed rust on the inside. That’s going to be a pain in the whatnot to sort out, but not end of the world.
This has given me access to the rear valance and its got a few blow holes on the outer panel and what looks like some thin areas, but until its blasted one will not be able to tell the damage.
I then spent a few hours moving things around in the garage and then moved all the parts I have so far removed from the GT up to the garage. So that’s now getting full as expected, but I have more space inside the GT to work. Out then came all the carpets and underlay. The underlay was all bagged up and moved to the garage for later dates. None of it was damp or worn other than the drivers foot-well. The carpet will need replacing as its not the best of condition. I have not brushed up the floor yet but two important things are noted for authenticity. I will need to be very specific with the guys to preserve these words.
Tomorrow I will need to start work under the bonnet in order to free up all the wiring loom, so I can continue the dash strip down. And obviously get as much of the engine and other parts under the bonnet removed. Time now for a coffee and a slice of cake.
