Its been a while, I have been busy with lots of other things and the cars have taken a back seat for a few weeks. But yesterday I collected the front subframe from Retropower and today stripped it right down to its component parts. I am going to send off the metal parts for shot blasting and repainting so they will all look nice and shiny for the rebuild, and the smaller brackets I will try to get zinc plated, so they don’t rust.
I have been looking at the various rubbers and alternatives available on the market, and for once I can see lots of options which is good because it means I can pick and choose to suit me, i will need to take a lot of advice on what to use to get the best out the subframe. Not to stiff it shakes the car to pieces but not to soft it falls over in corners.
In other news the whole rear quarter I had for the GT that I didn’t use, was media blasted last week ready to zinc primer and stick on ebay is scrap, seems the surface rust was a lot deeper than I thought. pin holes all over it everywhere, especially around the arch. But I am not throwing it away it might come in use for someone? You can just make out the pin holes on the arch in the following image. The sill section and rear sections are fine as is the door pillar section.
