Solex 1: Webber 0
Sounds like a football score but in fact its a change back to basics for Marvin. The Webber is great when giving the engine a hard time, and pulls like a train above 4000 rpm, but the tick over is terrible and it takes for ever to warm up. So with a nice sunny day and time to myself I decided to change Marvin back to the downdraught Solex 30iz carburettor. It would of been a side draft 150cd but I don’t have the bots and bobs to connect that carburettor to the throttle linkage, and the carb although being a 150cd is not one with the right links anyway.
I can feel the difference straight away Marvin starts easier tick over smoother (not smooth as the big valve head inst great at tick-over no matter what one does), and I have no flat spots when accelerating. Top end is missing but this carb is tiny compared to the Webber 28/36, so for now its just drive and get miles under the bonnet, worry about beating Mike GT later 😉
One really good thing about this set-up is the air filter, draws cold air into the engine form the front of the engine not hot air like the Webber did with the air filter I had fitted.
