Slant Four for Somerset
Yes hard to believe isn’t it, I am also building up the parts for a 2.3 slant four for a friend in Somerset. Like i dont need sleep actually….
So far I have had the old pistons taken off the conrods. These were plus 20 Low compression pistons, I know a man who wants these, so I can recycle these next week with him for other toys.
The conrods are the bigger Bedford CF type, these are due to be balanced tomorrow, and should look very different (more when thats done)
The block has now been taken out to plus 4o thou, to match the new High Compression pistons. The last job on the block is to replace the restrictor in the head, and swap the core plugs for new ones (next week sometime)
The crankshaft has already been taken over to the balancers and is being ground to Plus 30 on the Minas and Plus 20 on the Big ends, ready for balancing tomorrow. The heads are all spare as this new owner is going for BIG valves and is already on the case.
The flywheel is a heavy old beast in these engines so this morning I collected a couple of lightened ones, not sure which we will use on this engine yet? Note stock is 9.1kg.
Last in the pile of item sorted out is the oil pump, its a high capacity job and should see Dan swimming in oil 🙂
The intention is for the new owner to build this up. I will be delivering this to Somerset in a weeks time, with loads of other spares, so more on the story when it happens.
