Skirting the edge leg 17
Today was just what I needed a short 150 leg into Wales and the afternoon spent sunbathing on top of the Great Orm, alas it leaves me a seriously long leg tomorrow to Fishguard, but one step at a time. I can feel the end in sight now, having polished off England this morning and started Wales I know I have only a few more days driving till I am back at the M48 services on the English side of the Severn bridge (old one). Fate is weird I hit 4000 miles just as i crossed the bridge into Wales (well within 3 miles of each other). The sun is out this afternoon and the wind has died down. I think I have been a bit down as its been almost a week of drizzle and rain with stormy winds, amazing how a little sun helps.
So this morning I left Blackpool as was expecting delays and traffic everywhere getting into and out of Preston followed by the horror of a Major City after weeks away from one (the Last major one was Edinburgh some 9 days ago), nothing could of been easier! Liverpool was a joy to drive through, no traffic no hassle well sign posted. Once through the Mersey Tunnel and into the Wirral I was surprised to find its actually not a bad place… the North coast has some good beeches and the West is very scenic. From there it was into Wales along the old coast road (avoided the A55) and to my over night stop in Llandudno, but not before a drive around the Great Orm and a drive to the top to look out on a huge windfarm out to sea.
Ainsdale Beech Southport, parking on the sand (washed Malt Loaf a little later as the Blackpool Gulls like him so much they poo’d all over him)

On top of the Great orm, sun is out and the winds died down, a very pleasant afternoon. Looking out to sea there was (honest) a huge wind farm, of many turbines all slowly spinning and producing power) looked very good to me. Doubt the camera can do it justice.
