On Balance I am good
Today I popped back over the farm where the balancers are, we swapped some cash for bits and I now have the bottom end of the engine all balanced and ground for bearings, I dropped the crank pistons and conrods off at the machine shop, where they will wash the parts again and assemble the pistons onto the conrods for me. Hopefully that should all be ready for tomorrow AM sometime, so I can dive back into building it back up again.
The conrods have been lightened and are now down to 490 grammes or so each a drop of about 15 grammes over standard, this has been done by rounding off the tops and bottoms of the conrods and some polishing of the stems. The pistons have also been lightened a little bit, but I have retained the full piston skirt so no slap will occur.
The goal has been to obtain smoothness with no loss of reliability and or torque.
I also picked up the steel wheels from the shot blasters and popped them over to the paint shop where Marvin was painted and booked them in for paint and booked an MOT for Ray on Monday.
One back home I rigged up the new choke cable in Ray and now have a working choke, I also fired up ray and again everything was running fine other than a little popping sound but that’s down to that sticky valve in the head. Miles is all I can do to cure that.
Tomorrow I shall get some Redex into RAY, run him for 20 – 30 minutes get him nice and warm, then flush the radiator system down, its the one main job I have not done.
