Old Computer: Apple G4 tower
As I explained in earlier posts I am adding some different subject matter to my blog, its new to the channel but not to me. Today saw the finish of the latest you tube post, which was about an Apple G4 tower unit from 2001. I found this on Friday at a local council recycle dump shop, sat buried amongst endless cables and other junk. It was soon pulled out given a once over to check all the parts were there and obtained.
Its identical to one I got at a car boot last month, so I now have a pair, the post is about the closer unit, which as you can see is missing the CD ROM drive cover, otherwise complete.
The outside of this case had some scratches and lines of what appeared to be white gloss paint. The rest of the case was spotted with the same white gloss paint marks. The machine itself looked like it had never been cleaned it was full of dust, what may have been coffee spilt into it as some point (a liquid for sure) and cobwebs (with the odd dried insect to boot).
It was then just a matter of seeing if it all worked, I had a sneaky boot before I tried anything, and already knew the motherboard PRAM battery was dead. As a result of the dead battery it thinks it Jan the 1st 1970 each time its booted up, but the good news it that is still boots and works, once I get a new battery in it ready to be used.
