Yesterday I spent the day in the shires, of middle earth (Norfolk for the unwise) scanning pictures of cars, yes a whole day scanning nearly 900 cars from photo albums. I have about the same gain to do, but doing them one album at a time, so the rest will take a wee bit longer.
These scans are all for the Viva Owners Club register of vivas, which has grown somewhat in the last few months to around 2500 cars and I am my helper (registergimp Pete) are no where near the end of things.
I am very pleased with the progress we have made, and I wish I could show you some of it, but unless your a Viva Owners Club paid up member then you don’t get access, which I think if fair.
Today after a long lie in watching crap TV (what has the world come too) I tackled Marvin and at last I have had success, I removed the dizzy and stripped it to every nut and bolt and cleaned it all and rebuilt it. Using a voltmeter I then checked everything from HT leads, LH lead, points etc inside and outside the dizzy. After fitting it back in the car and doing a basic static time, I started Marvin and with the dizzy in the right place it runs on all four plugs now! Thanks god for that, so somewhere of other a bad earth was causing number three not to fire.
Only things to look at now are a better tune up, sort the spinning up clutch and the need for a new alternator.
Marvin is running an alternator, alas this one appears not to charge the car, and even if it was, the pulley is not located correctly for the belt to stay in line. So I need to find another one with the pulley in the right plain and then sort out the charging issue, once that’s done its look at road tests and clutch.
last item for today, just came across an earlier picture of Marvin in his past life with the last owner, this picture dates form 1995 ish and those wheels are just perfect, I must get them back and re fitted to the old boy, far far better than the Dunlop D1’s. And no matter what people think for some perverse reason I like the look of the cross-ply it seems too look right ?
