Mazzo’s 1159cc engine rebuild (part two)
following on from yesterday, I have moved forward with the bottom end of the engine, the timing gear is now fitted. I have fitted a new automatic adjuster to this engine, as the original apart from having to hand adjust was also eaten away. The time case cover has a new oil seal fitted and the oil pump checked over washed out and cleaned up, finally the oil pickup pipe was washed and checked for contaimination (all clear now).
I did notice when turning over the engine it squeals, but a small shot of WD40 on the rear crank oil seal and it disappears! I wonder if this was the real noise from the engine?
The flywheel is temporarily fitted, whilst turning things, it needs removing again before the sump is fitted (as its easier to fit the cork gaskets that way).
Tomorrow I shall refit the sump after the oil pickup is fitted fully, I will then turn my attentions to the head.
