Master Cylinder swap
Right well it was coffee drunk, email checked and the weather was good so no time like the present to get out and start the master cylinder swap. everything came off after I fiddled with the throttle pedal (that gets in the way of some of the bolts) out came the master cylinder. As I knew the threads were stripped and brake fluid was weeping up the thread. Its not very clear in the first picture, but the threads are gone and it is all just swarff 🙁
Luckily for me I have a nice new spare unit so that was dug out and made ready to fit back onto the car.
Thinking I decided to try and avoid this issue in the future (should I ever need to redo a master cylinder?) by putting on a short piece of brake pipe and a joiner.
It is now in the car all the nuts and bolts re done, and ready to bled. I put a small amount of fluid in the cylinder and gave it a few pumps NO LEAKS! All I need do now is get the car jacked up so I can get underneath and fit the bled kit, then= merrily bleed away until all the air is gone.
I might rest up this afternoon and put all the tools away and maybe do this over the next few days, in the light evenings. So far its all gone well, so why spoil a good day by dropping brake fluid all over myself, the paintwork and or drive?
