Popped over to Mallory Park today to watch the races, which included Baby Bertha, amongst other lovely looking cars. Alas Baby Bertha racing as it was frankly wasn’t giving it the beans, owner driver isn’t Gerry Marshall and he said as much, but it was still great to see it race and be given some stick even if it was cruising around compared to some of the others. Hats off to the chap mind for owner racing a world famous car is a huge responsibility and he did very well to come home no battle bruises or dents and show some of the potential.
A long wander around the pits to look at a huge variety of cars was interesting, lots of imps, jags and BL stuff was shared with V8 Daf’s Relients, Lotus cars and vauxhall / opels.
Cars I saw in the pits that I liked included a Lotus with a 904 engine (Vauxhall iron bottom end and Lotus head) a nice red Imp and a wee fiat 500. However out on the track racing the V8 Daf showed us what it was all about lots of noise and in the wet (yes it rained just before the race) it was having fun.
I parked Marvin up with a line up of Firenzas from the DSG, and we were joined by the VODC boys in a Royale coupé, a Manta 240 and for a bit of a rag tag of clubs form Vauxhall it presented a nice line up of cars.
True to form and just my luck, we found a great place on the track right next to the start finish straight to watch the cars, and my camera battery went dead 🙁 so please forgive the lack of pictures or videos of the races. I did try to use my phone, but as most people with phone cameras will know your better off using a canvas and brushes.
Ohh just found on the camera a short video clip just as the camera ran out of life, so better than nothing here it is:
