Long Weekend Away
Well just got back from a long weekend away in the peak district, Took Cheesy with us.
The plan was for me to get some well earned rest away from Vauxhall Vivas, and the wars, (Ironic as I took a viva with me!) This car is rather cute in a scrufy sort of way, we burbled along at 55mph up the M1 till we got to Chesterfield. Then the up hills began. Cheesy just drove up them and down the very long hill into the Hope valley without so much as a complaint. On Sunday I went for my walk, which after spending a long hour or of so looking at the map and listening to the weather report was foreshortend to a walk (the long way) up Winhill. Not the longest of walks in the world at 8-9 miles and only 500 or so metres of climbing. The last hour of acsent in driving hail stones in my left ear, with the obvious driving hail stones in my right ear on the descent! I had planned to pop up Ringing Roger and over the top of Kinder Scout and then drop down to the old roman road and along to Winhill, so i chopped 4 miles or so off the route. I arrived back at the cottage around 1pm, which was to plan, Horra I can add up and still work my walking pace out. I had a quick shower got changed and headed into Castleton for a pint and meal. Scrummy Lamb with grilled peppers and a nice leather sofa to sit and eat at. 🙂 All in all a productive weekend, no marathons run, no mega hills climbed, no ticks in guide books. This weekend was about me training for the Yorkshire 3 peaks which I have voluteered to walk in June for charity… 27 miles and 3 x 2500foot hills.
