Legs 15,16 & 17 Preview, Back to England and onwards to Wales
This preview will describe my journey plans as I exit Scotland and head towards the Lake District. The Lakes is a place I have never spent much time in. Thats daft as I love the mountains and too have not explored the Lakes at the age of 53 seems like they may of passed me by. Well on this journey they will, as I am following the coast road, not heading inland to the mountains or lakes. But they are on my radar as a place to visit soon and enjoy. From here I will pass around Morecambe bay past Blackpool, before heading into Liverpool and the First Major City driving since Newcastle some weeks earlier. The final stretch is along the North wales coast to Llandudno.
Mull of Galloway to Maryport
I leave the Mull of Galloway on this leg (the most southerly point of Scotland) and Tick off all four points of the compass of the Scottish mainland and head East across to Gretna Green. From here its back west on the English coast to the small town of Maryport. I never even knew it existed till I zoomed in on the map and thought why not stop here for the night. I am sure by the following day I will have a much better idea of Maryport and its greatness in the world.
Maryport to Blackpool
Heading south now; I skirt the edge of the Lakes right down to Barrow in Furness, I will pass Windscale, It might be a place I dont stop and walk on the beech. The day culminates in rounding Morecambe bay and stopping overnight in Blackpool. I am in a hotel on the seafront, I can smell the vinegar from the empty chip packets already.
Blackpool to Llandudno
This leg is one of those ones where plans are nothing without local knowledge, yes the Sat Nav will guide me, but in city centres trying to find a road tunnel under the Mersey I know things will go wrong. On the other side of the tunnel is the joy of the Wirral, followed by the north Wales coast across to Llandudno my overnight stop, and first in Wales.
