Its a setup
Last night I managed to get a few things modified for Marvin and a few items made like new gaskets for the carburettor too. I also managed to get copies of the Haynes carburettor books which contained a load of settings for various models of cars. Alas it doesn’t list Vivas in the Webber section but it did list an Anglia 997cc and a Cortina 1500 GT with a Webber DCD so using a bit of lateral thinking I worked out the settings for a 1250cc engine and Marvin is 1190cc so close enough for me.
So I have checked all the bits and bobs inside my Webber and I just need to swap a couple of parts when I buy them, but using the two spare DCD’s I have I managed to coble together an almost dead right set-up (based upon my interpretation of the book).
Tonight I refitted everything and restarted the car, its running 100% smoother and I am very happy with the results of a full strip down and rebuild, and a methodical reassemble and refit to the car. I have soem water hoses coming, once those arrive I shall fit those and then its time to test the car and adjust the timing / idle speed to find a good level, then I am ready for Avon Park Raceway in a weeks time.
For anyone else trying to set-up a DCD for a Viva here is my best guess at a good starting point:
Chokes: 24 – 26
Main Jets: 130 – 140
Idle jets: 0.50 – 0.55
Air idle Jet: 2.00 – 0.70
Emulsion tube: F30 – F30
Air correction jet: 2.30 – 1.80
Starter Jet: 1.50 F1
Accelerator Pump Jet: 0.60
Needle Valve: 1.75
