GT Electric steering and bias pedal box
As I am getting old, and because I wanted it, the steering on the GT is now power assisted. Not with the normal hydraulic setup, but using an electrical assisted motor on the steering coloumn. Its made from a Vauxhall Corsa B EPS unit and a Opal Manta steering column (more on why later) I now have a steering wheel connected to the steering rack. The rack if you remember is a hybrid half Ford Escort / Vauxhall Viva rack.
The Manta / corsa setup is well known and has been developed successfully over the last few years. Modifying it to fit the GT is a lot easier than modifying the existing column. The other advantage is the switch mechanism gives me Hazards lights, indicators, headlight full / dip beam and wipers on a single stalk, which is a vast improvement to the standard stalk on the GT. The existing steering wheel fits the Manta column. It all had to fit in and leave room for the custom pedal box, which is tight but fits.
