The dizzy arrived in the back of Mike’s HB estate this morning around 10:30am, which was great, but due to the weather being all blustery and like, we moved ourselves from the front of the house to Martins up the road, so we could use his nice garage. A cup of tea and a jam tart later we removed the old dizzy from Marvin and I moved over all the internals to the new Dizzy. The new Dizzy had all the weights and springs played around with.
After putting this back in Marvin and setting his ideal advance to 14 degree BTDC I took him for a test drive and all the pinking was gone, even at 10mph in 4th gear up a hill he would shake himself to bits but not pink. Back at the garage we tested the maximum advance and with the revs nice and high the advance was 30 degrees past TDC, I also noted that the vacuum doesn’t kick in till well above tick over. so that’s a huge 44 degrees of advance !!!
Mike also dropped off two heads for me, one is a big valve head the other is a normal head I need to fix. He has gone away with his GT head all smiles. I am smiling as Marvin appears smoother and easier to drive. Next on the hot list the Carb and later on the 5 speed gearbox. Bit more of those at the time.
