Clutch part 1
Today I felt looking at the weather now was the best time to change the clutch in Marvin. The clutch slips under full power and its annoying when you want to use full power. The weather reports said it would clear up this afternoon and tomorrow it would be dry. That’s as good as I am going to get for a while so now is the right time.
This morning I drove Marvin around tot he house and jacked him up onto the axle stands, hopefully high enough to enable me to drop the gearbox off and replace the clutch. After jacking the car up in the rain I retired for a cup of coffee, a dry off and to unpack the clutch ready. Alas as always these days things are never quiet as you planned. I indeed had a pressure plate and a friction disk, but they were different sizes… DOHH.
I took a drive up to the garage and looked through all the clutch items I have, only to find I now have three large clutch friction plates, and no small one. Not going to plan here is it. I came home and dived into the “shed of plenty” and found nothing that would help. It appears I have lots of large clutch items including flywheels but none have been balanced other than the lightweight flywheel (which I am not using on this engine). So it was time to hit the motor factors and internet. after an hour I had an idea to call a friend who lives not too far away, low and behold he had the very friction dick I need. So a afternoon trip out has gotten me all the parts I need, but its too dark to start now.
So tonight Marvin sits on the axle stands outside the house and tomorrow I shall make a start on the job. lets hope its doesn’t rain!
