CAD Design – Cardboard Aided Design
A new skill set for me, I have been playing with a CAD design tool, for the Fuel pump and filter layout. I have come up with a design to try on the car (before we convert money to metal). There is a gap of around 8 inches between the spare wheel well and the fuel tank, under the boot floor. Its on the same side as the fuel line run up to the front of the car so looks like the right spot to position these items.
First of all find some cardboard (cheers Aldi Corn Flakes) to lay it all out. I dug out the protractor and ruler and set about drawing it all up.
Then it was out with the larger scissors and cut it all out, add some folds then tape it up. I have added some braces underneath for the Cardboard, but the actual item shouldn’t need those.
Finally all together we have the draft design ready to test on the car. I have angles them because, well because I have and as long as pipe fittings and hose layout works I don’t see why I have to be so linear with things.
