I’ve not updated this blog much this week, but I have been faithful and done a lot, alas so much still to do.
I won another set of 1159cc + 0.040″ pistons thank god, so I can get them put on a set of con rods and get one of the engines put back together. If you didn’t already know I had two sets of these pistons and had two blocks re-bored ready, and the piston’s fitted to con rods. BUT and big but I got one set put on the wrong con rods (1256cc ones) and the others I somehow lost the end caps? (oops), a total balls up now I can get this new set put onto the correct 1159cc con rods (already done and collected from workshop)
I have also found 3 of the 4 missing end caps for the other piston set, so I am getting there. I am hoping that we might be-able to push the new pistons on the 1256cc con rods off and put back on the correct con rods (I can feel oval pistons a coming) Special tools being made this weekend
I also managed to collect a set of + 0.020″ 2300cc magnum pistons, and those are being put onto the old con rods from the slant four engine and the block is up at the workshop being re-bored to plus 20 thou.
This is the 2300cc before it went to the workshop, I will put up a nice after picture when the block is back
Where did I find those pistons? I found a seller on eBay who seems to have a warehouse full of old cars parts, it was a right Aladdin’s cave of parts, I shall try his first from now onwards as he is local and a very nice chap. If anyone needs a HA exhaust system I recon he has 3 or 4 full sets and maybe another half dozen box’s and pipes that would make up almost full sets, I did notice an SL HB system sat in the pile and all sorts of boxes.
I’ve also had heads up on a new boxed 1256cc HA van engine, Block, head, alternator, manifolds, dizzy and carb, the whole thing ready to drop straight into a HA Van, there is also a front drum brake subframe, a rear axle and a gearbox… This little find is all marked up BT, its not cheap and its definitely worth getting if one was restoring as BT yellow van to mint.
The 1057cc crank I got last weekend,(cheers Glenn) has lines on the journal’s but nothing that will not polish out (drats will need machining to 0.020″), once that’s back I have two options, use it in yet another engine, (not that I need yet another engine?) and or ship off to Canada, as I did offer to help a chap, but didnt expect his to ask for a 1057cc crank, postage aint going to be cheap, but thats not my cost.
Whats is planned for the rest of the week? well I have 20 -30 books still to scan, another large update on the website, rebuild one of the 1159cc engines all ready to deliver, and find a front subframe for the HC, anyone?
One last item if a loverly find from Freecycle a box of old spanners, one never has too few spanners
