Billing 2012 Friday 13th
Never was so much water rained onto by so many in so few a time (yea I know I ripped off Churchill). Billing for those of you who want the short version was cancelled due to flooding, the VBOA tried hard but it just couldn’t happen.
Right peter Dave and myself as per the last few years all left from my house in convoy me in Marvin and Dave and Peter following in Dave’s HC SL . We arrived around 11am to find the traditional pitch was flooded out, but never fear a new pitch had been found and we moved over to this location and set up the gazebo’s and tents on some nice high ground.
The beer came out and we sat down ready for an afternoon of cars arriving waving at folks and greeting folks as they arrived. A great pastime in my view, was really good to meet a load of folks who also came on Friday (or earlier) that I know from forums but not met in real-life.
We went for a wander on Friday afternoon once we were suitably lubricated and started off wandering past the Chevette Owners who had some lovely shiny cars including the yellow Chevanne that had been at Retropower earlier in the year, it was looking as fabulous as ever, inside outside and underneath. (at this point I realised I had forgotten my camera !Blast!).
From there we wandered into the Autojumble which was already a sea of mud and water, and over to Retropower to see the cars all lined up, say hello, possibly grab a beer? I bumped into Kenny and said hello (a fellow owner who has his car at about the same stage as mine in the workshop). We didnt stay long and felt we could come back a bit later for the beer as they was much to see and do.
We waded over Adrian who who brought his red Brabham HB and his white CF Luton van, they were also looking a bit at risk from the mud and water if it rained again. After a few minutes of chat about the world and things, the Brabham and how they were we moved on and headed over towards the other clubs.
The Viva Outlaws had a great line up of cars, which was a surprise for me, as I know Spot had been ill and was not sure he would make it. A couple of others I hadn’t thought would arrive had, so as always It was straight over to say hello’s to folks catch up a wee bit and make sure Spot was okay.
From there we walked past the Victor club stand which was a lot smaller than previous years, but it was still very early on Friday. We then moved onwards to the DSG stand that again was thin but its only Friday.
The last club we visited was the VODC, they were as always a good cheery bunch of folks, with a large eclectic mix of cars and vans.
So that was our first wander around the site which was a quick one hour walk, but we had the whole weekend to wander and talk so we got back to the most important thing, heading back for more Beer.
The weather was overcast and kept tempting to rain, but on the whole is wasn’t that bad, and everyone was making the most of the time and putting up flag poles and tents, tables chairs etc.
Needles to say the rest of the afternoon was an informal beer festival and curry eating session, and having been up so long I wandered off to bed at 9:45 pm.
The rain then came down at 10:00 pm, hard and continuous till I fell asleep, wondering if it was going to be serious.
