Avon Park Raceway
Today I drove in convoy over to Avon Park Raceway near Stratford and put Marvin to the test. In short I got almost the exact number I expected 20.499 seconds for the quarter mile (I guessed around 20 seconds). That was with the boot full of tools and stuff and me a dirty great lump behind the wheel.
As you can see I was not the winner (I am on the right) But it shows my best of the day 20.499, this was done by holding 3rd gear and not shifting up to 4th gear. I suspect if I was to improve my launch process (e.g. use throttle and not pull away like I am in a car park) things would be quicker.
I did three runs up the strip, the first was the slowest of the day, mainly because the completion was unbeatable (V8 Viva that did a 14.5 second quarter so all I saw was his rear lights in the distance), also having not been up the strip before I was looking around at things and ignored the lights.
The second run was a better match, although in all honesty I knew I was going to be beaten again, I paired up with Mike’s HB GT which did constant high 17’s. I am not worried about being beaten after all Marvin is a wee little car with a wee little engine.
Here are the cars that took part, all from the Viva Outlaws Club, who where happy to allow me to join in with there fun…
Here is Mikes HB GT, a super nice restores car running its original 2000cc engine, which was the only car I stood even a glimmer of a chance against.
Edd’s HB running a 2.9 Ford V6, a very fast car, don’t let looks deceive anyone.
ROVA a V8 powers Viva GT, again lovely car but way out of Marvin’s League.
And last in the row of cars Martins new V8 powers HC, first time out and it ran a 14.5 !!
Now I don’t have a video yet of me racing as obviously I was racing , but sometime soon I hope to have one maybe more videos to show you all of Marvin strutting his stuff. He Made it home no dramas at all, which is good. Tomorrow He goes back to the garage for a well deserved rest and I shall concentrate on polish and washes and a few shows.
