1587101 is the number of the beast
I wasn’t well today my cold stopped me from going to work, so sat at home grizzly, until about 2pm when I felt a lot better. So outside I shot and started on another engine so again. I now have two in build, a 1057cc and now, having plucked up the courage “the beast”.
The beast is an engine donated to me by John Sharp, in his own words is been sat in his garden for as many years as he can remember, he said it might well be good for parts but bugger all else. Sorry John but this is going to be rebuilt, its spotless inside, crank is good, its got an SL90 cam, and 0.010 thou main and big end bearings all clean no wear scores or mark.
I haven’t taken the head off yet as one of the head bolts is seized, so tomorrow I will grind that off, I suspect its going to be nice shiny pistons, its that’s the case its off to the workshop ASAP for cam bearings and a hone assuming the rings and pistons are good.
Here is the beast in all its “as it came from the garden” look.
and the number of the beast is 1587101:
Now why get another engine into build? why double my work? well after dropping the crank for the 1057cc off at the workshop I got a call to say its too worn on the thrust face to be able to use will need milling beyond 0.060″ so its scrap.
I could get a load of thrust washers made up at a cost, but I knew I had “the beast” engine and the crank is the same so for that reason I stripped it! BUT now its too good to scrap so I will rebuild this 1159cc first, then strip the other engine I have and use the crank in that for the 1057cc…. Oh joys of joys !
